Travs Cruise in Finale to Cap Sweep of Missions

August 23, 2015

Arkansas completed its first sweep of San Antonio at Wolff Stadium since 2010 following a 7-1 win Sunday night.

Ronald Herrera got the ball for the Missions Sunday in his first start since Tuesday's complete-game shutout of Northwest Arkansas. The 20-year-old hurler would not get a chance to match that effort against the Travs due to an inning restriction. Herrera only went two innings, but kept his scoreless streak alive at 11.

Arkansas took advantage of Herrera's departure in the third by plating a pair of runs off reliever Aaron Northcraft. Two innings later, Brian Hernandez pushed the Travs' lead to 4-0 when he connected on a two-run homer to left center off Northcraft (1-1).

The Missions scored what turned out to be their only run (UE) of the game in the sixth against winning starter Chris Ellis courtesy of a Benji Gonzalez RBI groundout. Ellis (6-3) allowed just two hits and three walks, while fanning six in his six innings of work.

Arkansas capped scoring in the eighth with a three-spot against right-hander Adam Cimber highlighted by Anthony Bemboom's two-run dinger to right.

Relievers Chris O'Grady and Austin Wood combined to keep the Missions hitless over the final three innings.

After an off day, San Antonio (24-32, 55-71) begins a seven-game road trip Tuesday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark with the first of four against Frisco. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. Bryce Morrow (3-3, 5.17) will take the hill for the Missions, while the 'Riders counter with fellow righty Phil Irwin (0-0, 3.00).

Notes: San Antonio has now lost a season-high five straight games. The Missions will be eliminated from playoff contention with a Midland win tonight at Tulsa. The RockHounds are currently leading the Drillers 12-1 in the eighth.
