Pigs Drop Series Finale to RailRiders, 7-2

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (60-74) dropped the series finale to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (75-59) by a score of 7-2 on Friday night at PNC Field in Moosic.

With the win, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre wins the IronRail trophy.

The IronPigs managed just three hits against RailRiders starter Kyle Haynes (3-1) who allowed the three hits while walking a pair and fanning one over six shutout innings.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre took an early 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first as Rob Refsnyder delivered an RBI double and later scored on Austin Romine's RBI single.

Kyle Roller's solo shot in the bottom of the second gave the RailRiders a 3-0 lead.

In the home half of the third, Roller came through with an RBI triple to extend the lead for the hosts to 4-0.

A three-run fourth gave Scranton/Wilkes-Barre a 7-0 advantage. Jose Pirela knocked home a run with an RBI triple, Romine came through with an RBI single and a throwing error by Pigs C Erik Kratz (2-4, 2 2B, R) allowed a run to score.

All seven runs were charged to Pigs starter Severino Gonzalez (2-6) who allowed the seven runs on 12 hits to go along with two walks and two strikeouts in 3.1 IP.

The Pigs plated their lone pair of runs in the ninth as Kratz led off with a double and scored when Kelly Dugan singled but both runners advanced on an error charged to RailRiders RF Rico Noel. Dugan later scored on Tommy Joseph's RBI single to bring the Pigs within 7-2.

RHP Seth Rosin (2.2 IP, 3 H, BB, 2 K), RHP Colton Murray (1.0 IP, K) and RHP Dustin McGowan (1.0 IP, 2 H, BB) all had a scoreless outing in relief for manager Dave Brundage's squad.

Chase d'Arnaud extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a pair of hits for Lehigh Valley and Brian Bogusevic (2-4) also had a multi-hit game.

The Pigs will open a three-game set at Syracuse on Saturday night. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. as RHP David Buchanan (4-1, 3.24) heads to the mound for the Pigs against Chiefs LHP Richard Bleier (5-2, 3.15).
