Nuts Defeated in Walk-Off Fashion for Second Straight Night

June 8, 2016

Lancaster, CA. - A strong start by Parker French was not enough in the Modesto Nuts' 3-2 walk-off loss against the Lancaster JetHawks on Tuesday night at The Hangar.

Parker French worked a season-high 7.2 innings for the Nuts (21-37) and struck out five while walking only one. He had tossed up nothing but zeros until the seventh. With one out in the inning, French surrendered a game-tying two-run homer to Bryan Muniz.

Jerry Vasto (L, 0-1) worked the ninth for the Nuts. Vasto surrendered a lead-off single and walked the next man. After a sac bunt, Vasto intentionally walked Bobby Boyd to load the bases. Vasto struck out Drew Ferguson but with two outs, Garrett Stubbs looped a walk-off single into center to complete the JetHawks' (32-26) four-game sweep of the Nuts.

Dom Nunez had given the Nuts the lead with his first home run of the season when he cracked a solo homer out to right in the fifth. Luis Jean added an insurance tally for the Nuts with a RBI double in the eighth.

Ryan Deemes (W, 2-0) retired all four batters he faced to end the eighth and through the ninth.

After an off day on Wednesday, the Nuts open a four-game set with the San Jose Giants on Thursday night at John Thurman Field at 7:05 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:00 p.m. Listen live online by clicking here
