Wings Bullpen Quiets Pigs in 4-2 Loss

July 29, 2016

The Rochester bullpen tossed 3.2 scoreless IP as the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (64-42) had their five-game winning streak snapped in a 4-2 loss to the Red Wings (62-46) on Friday night at Frontier Field.

RHP Neil Ramirez (1.0 IP, BB), LHP Ryan O'Rourke (1.1 IP, 3 K), RHP D.J. Baxendale (0.1 IP, H, K) and RHP J.T. Chargois (1.0 IP, K) combined to hold the Pigs scoreless in relief of Rochester starter Pat Dean. Chargois retired the side in order in the ninth to notch his eighth save of the year.

Dean (4-6) allowed two runs on six hits while walking two and fanning two in 5.1 IP.

Trailing 3-2 at the time, the IronPigs had runners at the corners with one out in the sixth, but Ramirez came on in relief of Dean and got Cam Perkins to pop out to first and Red Wings 1B Byungho Park robbed Brock Stassi with a diving snag of a line drive to end the inning.

Rochester took a 1-0 lead with a run in the second as Logan Schafer drew a two-out walk, stole second and scored on Darin Mastroianni's two-out RBI single.

The Pigs jumped out to a 2-1 lead for the time being with a pair of runs in the fourth. A pair of infield singles and a walk loaded the bases with one out before Perkins plated a run via an RBI single and Stassi plated another with a sac fly.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Red Wings took the lead for good at 3-2 as Tommy Field delivered a two-out, two-run single.

IronPigs starter Phil Klein (1-1) was tagged with the three runs on three hits to go along with two walks and four strikeouts in 4.1 IP.

Rochester plated an insurance run in the seventh to open up a 4-2 advantage when Schafer led off with a single, advanced to second on a single, took third on a wild pitch and scored on Field's sac fly.

LHP James Russell (1.2 IP, H, K) and LHP Elvis Araujo (1.1 IP, K) each had scoreless outings in relief for Lehigh Valley.

Darin Ruf (2-3, R) and Nick Williams (2-4, R) each had multi-hit outings for the IronPigs.

The series continues on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. as RHP David Buchanan (7-5, 4.05) takes the hill for the Pigs against Red Wings LHP Nick Greenwood (2-1, 4.03).
