Buchanan, 3-Run 2nd Carry Pigs to 3-0 Win

July 30, 2016

David Buchanan tossed seven shutout innings and a three-run second helped lift the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (65-42) to a 3-0 victory over the Rochester Red Wings (62-47) on Saturday night at Frontier Field in Rochester.

Buchanan (8-5) gave up four hits while fanning six over his 7.0 IP. RHP Michael Mariot (1.0 IP) and RHP Luis Garcia (1.0 IP, BB, K) combined to get the final six outs for the Pigs. Garcia tossed a scoreless ninth to notch his seventh save of the year.

Over his last four starts, the 27-year-old Buchanan is 4-0 with a 0.62 ERA and has allowed just two earned runs in his last 29.0 IP.

The afore-mentioned three-run second opened up an early 3-0 lead for the IronPigs. Darin Ruf's solo shot off of Red Wings starter Nick Greenwood started the inning before a pair of walks put two men on and Darnell Sweeney knocked home a run via an RBI single and Jesmuel Valentin plated a run via a sac bunt. The home run was Ruf's 14th of the season.

Greenwood (2-2) allowed the three runs on seven hits while walking three and fanning one in 7.1 IP.

J.P. Crawford (2-3), Andrew Knapp (2-3, 2B, R) and Sweeney (2-3, RBI) all had multi-hit games for manager Dave Brundage's squad.

The series wraps up on Sunday at 1:35 p.m. as RHP Jake Thompson (10-5, 2.57) gets the ball for the IronPigs against Rochester LHP Andrew Albers (9-3, 3.12).
