Stone Crabs explode for 13 runs to beat Mets

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (June 25, 2017) - The bats were alive again in the series finale between the St. Lucie Mets and Charlotte Stone Crabs at First Data Field on Sunday. In the end it was the Stone Crabs holding on for a 13-10 win.
 
The Mets outscored the Stone Crabs 40-39 in the four-game series but Charlotte won three of the games.
 
On Sunday the Mets raced out to a 4-0 lead, but the Stone Crabs picked apart Mets starter Andrew Church for eight runs in the third and fourth innings. The Stone Crabs knocked Church out of the game in the fourth and went on to increase their lead to 13-5 after six innings.
 
The Mets went on the comeback trail in the eighth. They put up five runs against knuckleballer Taylor Hawkins to cut the Stone Crabs deficit to three. However, Tyler Brashears came on to get the final two outs of the eighth. Drew Smith retired the Mets in order in the ninth to earn his fifth save.
 
John Mora went 4 for 5 with a triple, double, single four RBIs and two runs scored in the losing effort.
 
For the Stone Crabs, Peters Maris went 4 for 6 with four runs scored. Jake Cronenworth and Brett Sullivan had three hits apiece. Sullivan recorded five RBI.
 
The Mets (1-3, 34-38) are off on Monday. They return to First Data Field on Tuesday to start a three-game series against the Palm Beach Cardinals. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. Tim Tebow is expected to be in the lineup.
