Moya Sets Records as 'Wolves Down Ducks

The SeaWolves put up double digit runs for the second straight night as they took down the Akron RubberDucks 10-8 at Canal Park on Saturday night.

Akron jumped ahead in the first against Erie starter Wilsen Palacios. Erik Gonzalez singled with one out and got to second on a wild pitch. On a deep flyout off the bat of Ryan Raburn, Gonzalez scored on an error making it 1-0 Ducks.

Erie responded in the second against Ducks starter Cody Anderson. Dean Green led off and was hit by a pitch, putting the tying run on for Steven Moya. Moya crushed his 35th home run over the wall in right for a 2-1 lead. With the home run, Moya passes Kurt Airoso for first all-time. The two RBI put Moya as the franchise single-season RBI record holder with 104.

The 'Wolves added to the lead in the fourth. Devon Travis and Green each singled putting two on for Moya. Moya lifted a single to left-center, plating Travis for a 3-1 lead. The RBI was Moya's 105th. Corey Jones doubled home Green making it 4-1. After Aaron Westlake walked, loading the bases, Francisco Martinez singled to center, plating a pair for a 6-1 lead.

Akron responded in the bottom of the sixth. Jaime Pedroza singled and was tripled home by Gonzalez making it 6-2. Raburn singled home Gonzalez, cutting the Erie lead down to three. Jason Giambi doubled putting runners on second and third for Anthony Gallas. Gallas grounded out, scoring Raburn making it 6-4 and Bryan LaHair doubled home Giambi, taking the Erie lead down to a run at 6-5.

In the top of the seventh, Jason Krizan singled and Dixon Machado walked putting two on for Jamie Johnson. A double steal put the runners on second and third and Johnson doubled home both for an 8-5 lead.

Akron got the runs right back in the seventh against Slade Smith. Alex Lavisky led off with a single and Pedroza was hit by a pitch putting two on. Gonzalez sent a rocket at Jones and on an error, two runs scored making it 8-7. The 'Wolves turned it over to Angel Nesbitt who retired the final two of the seventh and all three in the eighth.

Leading 10-7 into the ninth, the Ducks got one back against Jose Valdez but Valdez eventually shut the door, earning his 17th save.

Palacios (10-4) earned the win joining Jeff Ferrell as Erie's two 10-game winners. Palacios allowed five runs, four earned, on seven hits in 5.1 innings.
