Reid Brignac and Evan Longoria Promoted to AA Montgomery

Oaks Promote Three Players to AA in 2 Days
August 3, 2006
VISALIA, CA - Following Wednesday's Visalia Oaks victory, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays promoted the left side of the Oaks infield, shortstop Reid Brignac and thirdbaseman Evan Longoria, to the AA Montgomery Biscuits.

Reid Brignac, in the midst of an MVP caliber campaign, was hitting .326/.382/.557 (AVG/OBP/SLG) as the Oaks everyday shortstop. At the time of his promotion, Brignac was fourth in the league in batting average (.326), tied for second in HR (21), second in RBI (83), third in slugging (.557), fifth in extra-base hits (50), second in hits (134) and third in runs scored (82). Brignac was originally a 2nd round pick of the Tampa Bay organization in the 2004 draft.

Evan Longoria, who was Tampa Bay's first round selection (3rd Overall) in this June's draft joined Visalia on June 30th and had an immediate impact, doubling home Brignac in his first AB as an Oak. In 28 games in Visalia, Longoria hit .327/.402/.618 with 8 doubles, 8 HR and 28 RBI. Before coming to the California League, Longoria played eight games with the Hudson Valley Renegades of the New York Penn League. In 36 games as a professional, Longoria has 12 HR and 39 RBI.

Brignac and Longoria follow Oaks outfielder Patrick Breen by one day to AA Montgomery, leaving Visalia, the League's highest scoring team, without three of its most potent bats. The three players combined for 27% of the team's doubles, 29% of its RBI and a whopping 45% of its HR.
