July 2, 2012
The Palm Beach Cardinals (5-7) took a two run lead to bottom of the ninth inning, but could not hold off the Jupiter Hammerheads (6-4) from scoring three runs and winning 5-4.

The Cardinals received a solid spot start from Scott Schneider, tossing four innings, scattering three hits and giving up one earned run.

After Christian Yelich tied the game with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth at 1-1, the Cardinals answered with two runs in the fifth. A leadoff walk to Vance Albitz set up the first run, as he advanced on a wild pitch, stole second base and scored on a fielding error by Noah Perio. Mike O'Neill, who reached on the Perio's error scored a fielder's choice ground out by Chris Edmondson to make it 3-1.

The hammerheads brought it within one run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Reliever Todd McInnis gave up singles to Marcell Ozuna and Mark Canha to put runners on first and third with one out. McInnis got the next hitter Ryan Fisher to strike out, but the ball evaded catcher Luis De La Cruz, allowing Ozuna to score and make it 3-2. McInnis would get out of the jam by inducing an inning-ending fly out.

The Cardinals added a valuable insurance run in the seventh, as James Ramsey reached base on a fielder's choice. Ramsey, who had a perfect night before the ground out, followed by stealing second and scoring on an RBI single by Rainel Rosario to make it 4-2.

With a two run lead, Dean Kiekhefer (2-2) entered the ninth looking to lock down his eighth save of the season. However, the southpaw could not stop the Jupiter attack, as they scored three runs to top the Cardinals. Dallas Poulk drove in two to tie the game at 4-4. He advanced to second on the throw by Rosario and Danny Black drove him in with an RBI single to center to win the game.

On the night, Ramsey went 3-for-5 with a run scored and a stolen base, while Luis De La Cruz added three hits and an RBI.

The Cardinals will try and win the series tomorrow night, as Ryan Sherriff (5-0) will take the ball for the Beach Birds against the Jupiter Hammerheads. Game time is scheduled for 6:35 p.m., as it will be the first of two Mega Bash IV nights at the 'Dean.
