Batavia Wins Game Two

BATAVIA, NY-The Batavia Muckdogs (10-8) scored eight runs on 11 hits to beat the Connecticut Tigers (5-13) by a score of 8-2 before 649 fans at Dwyer Stadium on Thursday night.

The Tigers started the scoring with a solo home run in the first inning. CF Jake Stewart (2-4) led off the game with a solo home run. It was his first professional home run and it put the Tigers up 1-0.

The Muckdogs scored a run in the first inning. RF Steve Ramos (1-5) led off with a single, moved to second base when SS Breyvic Valera (3-5) singled and to third base when 2B Jacob Wilson (2-4) hit into a fielder's choice. CF Matthew Young (0-2) lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to score Ramos and tie the score at 1-1.

Batavia took a 2-1 lead in the second inning when C Jesus Montero (2-4) doubled and was driven home by DH Jonathan Keener's (1-4) single. The Tigers tied the game in the third inning. SS Jordan Dean (2-3) led off the inning with a single and stole second base. He scored on a single by 3B Tyler Hanover (2-4) to tie the score at 2-2.

The Muckdogs scored two runs in the third inning on a two-run single by Montero and one run in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Valera to make it 5-2.

Batavia scored three runs in the seventh inning, including a two-run home run by 3B Patrick Wisdom (1-4) to round out the scoring at 8-5.

TIGER TRACKS: The Tigers made two roster moves before Thursday's game. C Wes Thigpen was transferred to AA Erie and the Tigers added 2012 13th round pick Devin Travis to the roster. Travis just finished his junior year at Florida State University, where he hit .328 with eight home runs and 44 RBIs. He finished 1-4 with a single on Thursday.

The Tigers and Muckdogs finish their series on Friday at 7:05 p.m. RHP Montreal Robertson (0-1, 3.46) gets the start against LHP Ben Freeman (1-0, 2.81) for Batavia. Pre-game radio coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. on AM 1310 WICH and online at www.cttigers.com.
