Beach Birds Blanked by Marauders, 6-0

July 5, 2012
The Palm Beach Cardinals (6-9) continued their offensive woes, as they were shutout by the Bradenton Marauders (10-5), 6-0 on Thursday night.

Marauders tarter Colton Cain (3-5) was brilliant, holding the Cardinals down to five hits in seven innings of baseball. He struck out two, while walking three hitters in route to his first victory over the Cardinals.

On the other side, Bradley Watson (0-3) continued his struggles on the mound. He was tagged for three runs on six hits. He struck out six batters, but had trouble keeping the other team from scoring position as he committed two balks. Both runners ended up scoring, allowing for the Marauders to jump out to an early 3-0 lead.

Reliever Todd McInnis did not fare any better, as the former starter was roughed up for three runs on four hits in two innings of baseball. In the seventh inning, McInnis gave up a triple and double, allowing for the Marauders to score two of their three runs of the right-hander.

Offensively, the Cardinals were held at bay the entire night. They grounded into three double plays, allowing for the Marauders to get out of trouble. They had three runners reach second, but only one advanced to third.

Their biggest threat came in the second innig, as they got back-to-back singles from Chris Edmondson and Luis De La Cruz to set up a scoring opportunity. However, Rainel Rosario promptly grounded into a double play ending the threat.

Luis De La Cruz continued his hot hitting, extending his hitting streak to eight games. De La Cruz' 2-for-3 night lifted his batting average over the .300 mark for the first time this season. In his last ten games, De La Cruz is hitting .483 with three RBI.

The Cardinals will try and stop this losing skid tomorrow night, as they finish the series with Bradenton Marauders at 6:35 p.m. Drew Benes (3-6) will get the ball, as he will replace the recently promoted Kevin Siegrist in the rotation.
