July 14, 2012
WILLIAMSPORT, PA --- Chris Bostick went 3-for-5 with doubles in each of the first two innings as the Vermont Lake Monsters built an early four-run lead and held on for a 4-3 New York-Penn League victory over the Williamsport Crosscutters to snap a three-game losing streak Saturday night at Bowman Field.

Bostick led off the game with a double to left and scored one out later on a RBI single from Jacob Tanis, who had singles in each of his first three at bats. Vermont added two more runs in the second on RBI double from Bostick, who then scored from second when Brett Vertigan reached on fielding error by shortstop Roman Quinn. Wilfredo Solano made it 4-0 for Lake Monsters in the third with a solo home run, his first homer of the season.

Vermont starter Tyler Vail held Williamsport to just one hit over the first four innings with four strikeouts, but ran into trouble in the fifth as the Crosscutters scored three times. A single and Brian Pointer RBI double plated the first run before Pointer scored an unearned run on a Solano fielding error. Cameron Perkins later doubled home another unearned run with two outs in the fifth to chase Vail.

Reliever Seth Streich (1-0) got a strikeout to end the fifth, then allowed just one hit over the next two innings to earn the victory. Streich worked out of runner on third and one out jam in the seventh with a strikeout and groundout, then Ryan Dull worked around a two-out triple in the eighth and struckout two in a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his first save.

Crosscutter starter Josh Weaver (2-1) allowed four runs (two earned) on eight hits over four innings for the loss and Yan Carlos Olmo went 2-for-3 with a run for Williamsport (9-17), which lost its fifth straight game and for the 12th time in last 14 games.

Vermont (15-11) continues its three-game series at Williamsport on Sunday beginning at 5:05 pm before the series finale on Monday. The Lake Monsters then head to Connecticut for games on Tuesday and Wednesday before returning home to historic Centennial Field for a two-game series with Tri-City Thursday and Friday.
