RHP Randy Wells Announced Retirement

Express Starter Hangs it up After 11 Seasons

ROUND ROCK, Texas - RHP Randy Wells has officially retired from professional baseball, the Texas Rangers and Round Rock Express announced Tuesday.

Wells was in his 12th professional season and first with the Texas Rangers organization. He was signed to a minor league deal as a free agent on December 6, 2012. The 30-year-old had right elbow surgery in July, missing the final eight weeks of the 2012 season. He was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 38th round of the 2002 First-Year Player Draft.

In five starts this season, Wells was 0-4 with a 6.08 ERA (23.2ip/16er). He allowed 12 walks and recorded 20 strikeouts.

The Express continues a four-game road trip in Iowa tomorrow before returning home on Friday to face the Nashville Sounds (Milwaukee Brewers) at 7:05 p.m. Budweiser Friday Fireworks will light up the Central Texas sky following the conclusion of the game.
