RiverDogs Score Six in Eighth to Win, 10-4

Christian Walker records second straight 3-hit game

Salisbury, MD - The Charleston RiverDogs (14-15) scored six runs in the eighth inning to cruise past the Delmarva Shorebirds (15-16) 10-4 on Monday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. 

The RiverDogs used a two-out rally to build a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Greg Bird drew a two out walk. Dante Bichette, Jr. singled. Then, Peter O'Brien singled to left to score Bird. Yeicok Calderon hit a line drive off the base of the right field wall to increase the lead to 3-0.

In the third, Charleston added to the lead on a sacrifice fly to right field by Peter O'Brien. 

The Shorebirds scored twice in the fifth inning on two errors by the RiverDogs. Adrian Marin reached on a fielder's choice pop up to right field that was dropped by Calderon. He later scored on a threw to second by the catcher O'Brien that skipped into center field. Gregory Lorenzo scored from third on a chopper to first by Torsten Boss that was mishandled by the first baseman.

The Shorebirds inched within one run in the sixth inning on an RBI groundout by Marin with the bases loaded.

The RiverDogs put the game away with six runs in the eighth inning on four hits and four walks to build a 10-3 lead. Jose Nivar walked two and gave up a single to load the bases. Nivar was replaced by Williams Louico. Francisco Rosario drew a bases loaded walk. Then, Jake Cave and Cito Culver hit back-to-back RBI singles. Two batters later, Dante Bichette, Jr. hit a two run single to stretch the lead to 9-3. The RiverDogs added a tenth run on a bases loaded walk. The Shorebirds got a run back in the eighth inning. Nik Balog hit a low line drive to right field that skidded past Calderon to put Balog at third. He scored on a wild pitch.

Charleston reliever Evan Rutckyj earned the win over 5.1 innings. He allowed six hits and four runs, none earned. Rutckyj struck out five and walked one. 

Shorebirds starter Parker Bridwell was tagged with the loss over five innings. He allowed five hits and four runs. 

Jose Nivar tossed 2.1 innings and allowed one hit and three runs. Louico gave up three hits and three runs over 0.1 innings pitched. 

Lex Rutledge went the final 1.1 innings and surrendered two hits and no runs. 

The Shorebirds and RiverDogs conclude the series on Tuesday morning at 10:35am. LHP Matt Taylor is the scheduled starter for Delmarva.
