Miami Marlins' Minor League right-handed pitcher Juan Arias received a 50-game suspension without pay Thursday after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance.

The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball said Arias, who appeared in 12 games last season, tested positive for  metabolites of Stanozolol, an ananolic steroid banned by the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

The suspension of Arias, who is currently on the roster of the Dominican Summer League Marlins, will be effective at the start of the DSL season.

Arias, 18, went 1-3 with a 5.23 ERA in 12 relief outings last summer. He allowed 18 runs on 24 hits with 11 strikeouts and 10 walks in 20 2/3 innings in his first season.

Arias is the 20th player to be suspended in 2013 for violating the Minor League drug program.
