Hammerheads Complete Sweep of Yankees with 9-4 Win

Tampa, Fla. - The Jupiter Hammerheads (20-19) completed a four-game sweep of the Tampa Yankees (15-23) with a 9-4 win on Thursday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field. Jupiter leftfielder Brent Keys led the way with a home run, three singles, a walk and two runs scored.

Second baseman Angelo Gumbs collected three hits in his return from the disabled list. Gumbs hit two doubles and scored twice while batting second in the order.

Keys greeted Yankees starting pitcher Sean Black with a solo home run to right field to lead off the game. Two outs later, Austin Barnes hit a home run to left field to give the Hammerheads an early 2-0 lead.

With one out in the first, Gumbs doubled down the right field line. Gary Sanchez would drive in Gumbs with a ground-rule double to center.

Dan Fiorito reached on an error to lead off the second for Tampa. After a single by Saxon Butler, the runners would advance on a wild pitch by Jupiter starter Anthony DeSclafani. Eduardo Sosa delivered an RBI sacrifice fly to tie the game, 2-2.

Jupiter took a 4-2 lead in the third. After a walk by Keys, Alex Burg doubled to right. Ryan Rieger scored Keys with a sacrifice fly to center. Burg later scored on a wild pitch by Black.

Gumbs led off the third with a ground-rule double to right. He later scored on an RBI single by Sanchez.

After a one out walk by Cody Grice, Gumbs reached on an error by Rieger at first. Grice would come around to score on a second error when Rieger overthrew a throw to home. That tied the score at 4-4.

The Hammerheads regained the lead in the fifth. Keys led off the inning with a single off of Yankees' reliever John Brebbia (0-2). Burg reached on a fielder's choice and moved to second on a single by Rieger. Barnes then hit a groundball to third. Anderson Feliz attempted to make a force out at second, but threw wide of the bag. Burg scored on the error. Issac Galloway would drive in Rieger with a sacrifice fly to give Jupiter a 6-4 lead.

Jupiter reliever Ronald Barnes (3-0) pitched two scoreless innings and received the win.

Keys, Burg and Rieger each singled to begin the seventh. Barnes grounded into a force play at home. Burg then scored on a passed ball after a strikeout by Galloway. Austin Nola then drove in Rieger and Barnes with an RBI single to right. That gave Jupiter a 9-4 lead.

Tampa will begin a three-game commuter series with the Clearwater Threshers with a 7:00 p.m. game on Friday at Steinbrenner Field. RHP Scottie Allen is scheduled to start for the Yankees. LHP Nick Hernandez will counter for the Threshers. Friday is also Customer Appreciation Day, presented by Bright House Networks. Fans can bring their Bright House bill to the Steinbrenner Field box office to receive free tickets to the game. A fireworks show will follow the conclusion of the game.
