Jupiter completes the sweep as Cardinals fall 1-0

May 19, 2013

JUPITER, FL- Despite out-hitting Jupiter 6-4, the Palm Beach Cardinals lost 1-0 Sunday afternoon at Roger Dean Stadium. The Hammerheads have now completed four series sweeps of their opponents this season (Dunedin, Charlotte, Tampa, Palm Beach).

Cardinals' starting pitcher Jonathan Cornelius entered the day coming off of his best start of the season against Lakeland where he threw 7 innings of one hit baseball.Today was no different as the lefty did his best to imitate his past start, throwing 7 innings giving up two hits this time around, walking one and fanning one Jupiter batter.

The game remained knotted at 0-0 until the 8th inning. RHP Heath Wyatt relieved Cornelius in the top of the inning where he gave up a leadoff single to Jupiter's Ryan McIntyre (1-4, R). Wyatt proceeded to commit two errors (pickoff, throw) before recording his next out putting runners on first and second. Yefri Perez (1-3, RBI) capitalized with an RBI single that skipped through the middle of the infield, scoring McIntyre.

The one run would prove to be enough for Jupiter to capture their 8th straight win.

Jonathan Rodriguez (3-4, 2B) collected three hits on the day for Palm Beach.

The Cardinals will travel to Brevard County tomorrow morning to take on the Manatees in the first game of a four game series at Space Coast Stadium.
