G-Braves Power Past IronPigs on Sunday

John Suomi goes 3-for-5 and homers in defeat
June 2, 2013

Sunday afternoon was another high-scoring affair between the IronPigs and Gwinnett Braves, but this time it swung in the braves favor as they took the game by a score 11 to seven.

B.J. Rosenberg lasted five and a third innings, and was charged with eight runs on eight hits. He gave up two home runs in the game, with the big blast being a three-run homer by Stefan Gartrell to give Gwinnett a 6-4 lead in the game. The other home run was a first inning, two run homer off the bat of Joey Terdoslavich, his ninth of the year.

The IronPigs led 4-3, but a five-run sixth and three run seventh put Gwinnett ahead for good.

Terdoslavich finished 3-for-5 with the homer and two RBI, and Gartrell had two hits in four trips, and drove in three runs. Paul Janish also batted in two runs in the game, while Tyler Pastornicky and Sean Kazmar had an RBI apiece.

With the loss, Rosenberg falls to 1-5, and his ERA rises to 5.17.

Lehigh Valley's offense was kept in check by Daniel Rodriguez, but he lasted only three innings due to an injury. Rodriguez surrendered two runs on five hits, and received a no-decision in the contest.

The winner in the game was Ryan Buchter, who tossed three innings and allowed two runs. It was his first win of the season, to go along with no losses.

For Lehigh Valley, Cody Asche and John Suomi each homered in the game and combined to go 4-for-8 with two homers, three RBI and four runs scored. Suomi's home run was his first this season in an IronPigs uniform.

The game was played in front of 8,649 fans, and it took three hours and 25 minutes to complete.

Lehigh Valley will try again to win the series tomorrow night against the Braves. Lefthander Raul Valdes (0-1, 5.54 ERA) will pitch for Lehigh Valley and Gwinnett will send fellow southpaw Yohan Flande (3-4, 4.25 ERA) to the hill. First pitch is set for 7:05.
