Hauschild fans career-high in gem
Starter Mike Hauschild deals a career-high 10 strikeouts, while Austin Elkins homered for the third time in eight games to lead the Bandits (45-34) to a 4-0 victory over the LumberKings (39-40) in front of 3,636 fans at Modern Woodmen Park on Sunday evening.
The River Bandits got on the board first with two runs in the second. Jesse Wierzbicki led off the inning with a single, advanced to second on a single from Roberto Pena, and scored on a fielding error on first baseman Taylor Ard on a grounder off the bat of Elkins with one out. Brian Blasik took a pitch off his batting helmet to gain a free pass to first and load the bases for Quad Cities. Brett Phillips answered with his first Midwest League RBI on a groundout to second baseman Keith Werman that allowed all runners to advance, including Pena to score.
Rio Ruiz extended the Bandits' lead to 3-0 on a line drive single to right field to score Carlos Correa from second with two outs. Correa doubled to the wall in center field two batters earlier in the frame.
Quad Cities stacked on another run in the fourth on a solo shot from Elkins over the wall in right field. The home run is Elkins' fourth of the season, all of which coming at Modern Woodmen Park.
Clinton threatened by loading the bases in with two outs in the fifth. Hauschild rung up Jordy Lara and Gaby Guerrero on strikes to start the frame before allowing a double to Martin Peguero, Keith Werman reached on an error by first baseman Wierzbicki and then Jabari Henry was hit by pitch to fill the base paths. However, Hauschild was able to reach the double-digits in strikeouts by fanning Janelfry Zorrilla for the final out on the inning and of his outing.
Lara broke up the shutout bid with a solo home run to the left field berm off right-hander Gera Sanchez with one out in the ninth inning .
Hauschild (5-1) allowed three hits and hit one batter, allowing a runner to reach third base once en route to earning the win. The University of Dayton alumnus' previous career-high was five strikeouts, last achieved at Peoria on June 8. Jankowski allowed four hits and struck out four in three shutout innings, while Sanchez struck out one and allowed the lone Clinton run. Quad Cities pitching finished one shy of its season-high of 16 strikeouts with 15. Eight of the nine batters in the Clinton lineup struck out in the contest, five for multiple times.
Right-hander Victor Sanchez allowed all four Quad Cities runs, two of them earned, on five hits in four innings to suffer the loss.

Left-hander Colton Cain (3-5) will toe the rubber for Quad Cities against right-hander Matt Anderson (4-6) and the Clinton LumberKings at Modern Woodmen Park on Monday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
