Chiefs Drop 3-2 to Beloit in front of Sellout Crowd
With a season-high 8,040 in attendance- the largest Dozer Park Crowd since April 28, 2009- the Peoria Chiefs lost to the Beloit Snappers 3-2 on Thursday. The loss dropped the Chiefs to 43-38 on the season and 5-9 in the second half heading into Friday's game.
The Snappers threatened to score against Joe Cuda in the third inning by loading the bases with no outs. The Chiefs righty responded with a strike out of Daniel Robertson and forced Chris Bostick to ground into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning and preserve the scoreless tie.
The Chiefs broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth inning with a pair of runs against Andres Avila. With two outs Jordan Walton walked and Patrick Wisdom hit a home run to left field to put the Chiefs up 2-0. The homer was Wisdom's team-leading 13th of the season and put him in a three-way tie for third in the Midwest League in that category.
Beloit answered with three runs in the top of the sixth all coming with two outs. Dayton Alexander singled and Aaron Shipman doubled to right to put a pair in scoring position. Robertson singled to plate both runners, and scored on a Bostick triple to put Beloit up 3-2.
The Chiefs didn't threaten the Snappers from the fifth inning on. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, Walton singled to extend the game. A deep fly out to right from Wisdom, however, ended the Chiefs comeback attempt as the Snappers won 3-2
Cuda (4-4) gave up three runs on seven hits and two walks in six innings pitched while striking out three. Robert Stock tossed one hitless frame while fanning one. Sam Tuivailala gave up three hits in two scoreless innings pitched while striking out four.
