'Pigs fall despite strong start in Morgan's return
July 22, 2013

ROCHESTER, NY - The Lehigh Valley IronPigs fell for the seventh time in their last eight games as they dropped a 3-1 decision to the Rochester Red Wings Monday evening at Frontier Field.

The Red Wings (54-50) quieted the IronPigs' offense while scoring once in three separate innings as they won for the fifth time in their last seven tries.

The home side pounced on the board in the second inning as Oswaldo Arcia doubled and then scored on Ray Olmedo's single to left field. Then in the third Rochester doubled its lead with an unearned run, as Eric Farris reached on an error and later scored on a fielder's choice for a 2-0 lead.

Two innings later Arcia struck again for the Red Wings, singling to center field with two outs to score Farris from third base for a 3-0 advantage after five innings of play.

In the eighth Lehigh Valley (51-52) finally cracked the scoreboard as Cameron Rupp singled and then advanced to second base three batters later on Freddy Galvis' single. With two away Cody Asche delivered a single up the middle to score Rupp, but it would prove to be the lone run the IronPigs would plate.

Logan Darnell (1-2) earned his first career Triple-A win with six shutout innings, allowing just four hits and striking out a pair before Shairon Martis earned his seventh save with a perfect ninth inning. In his first Triple-A start in over two months Adam Morgan (1-5) took the loss, surrendering two runs (one earned) in four innings of work while Jay Johnson and Phillippe Aumont each worked a scoreless inning in relief.

Offensively Asche had the big night for the IronPigs with three hits, while Josh Fields notched a multi-hit game with a 2-for-4 performance.

The series continues Tuesday when the IronPigs send RHP Ethan Martin (10-5, 4.60) to the mound against RHP Nick Blackburn (NR) who goes for Rochester. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. from Frontier Field.
