July 24, 2013

EUGENE, Ore. - Dillon Maples tied a career high with seven strikeouts in picking up his first professional win, as the Boise Hawks logged their third-straight shutout, blanking the Eugene Emeralds, 6-0, before 3,657 fans at P.K. Park.

Boise pitchers have now tossed 27.2 consecutive scoreless innings - and have thrown five shutouts in the last two weeks. Maples, Corbin Hoffner, and Carlos Martinez limited the Ems to seven singles, striking out a combined 12 batters in the victory.

The Hawks grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third inning - taking advantage of four Eugene walks, as a bases loaded walk to Jacob Rogers forced in the opening run of the game, with Jacob Hannemann scoring on a wild pitch.

Danny Lockhart added to the lead in the fourth with a two-run single, with Rogers blasting his fifth homer of the year leading off the fifth.

Rogers and Hannemann each had two hits in the victory - the Hawks tenth win in 11 games.

Game 2 of the series is tomorrow night at 8:05 p.m., with Loiger Padron meeting Christian Miller.
