Columbus holds on for win against Buffalo

House strikes out four in solid outing
July 31, 2013

A three run first inning was all Columbus would need as T.J. House and a host of Clippers relievers made it stand up for a 3-2 win at Huntington Park.

The Clippers got off to a fast start offensively in the bottom of the first. Chun Chen plated a run with an RBI single. Juan Diaz followed that with an RBI single of his own. Matt Carson capped the inning with an RBI double as Columbus jumped out to an early 3-0 lead.

The Bisons cut into the lead with a Mike McCoy solo homer in the top of the fifth. They would inch closer with a Sean Ochinko RBI single in the top of the sixth. That's all Buffalo could muster against lefty T.J. House as he struck out four in six quality innings.

Columbus relievers Vinnie Pestano, Preson Guilmet, and Nick Hagadone pitched the final three innings of the contest and held the Bisons off the scoreboard to get back into the win column. House (W, 4-10) got the win for Columbus. Chien-Ming Wang (L, 6-7) was tagged with the loss for Buffalo. Hagadone (S, 3) nailed down the win in the ninth.

Buffalo and Columbus will be back at it on Thursday night. The Clippers will tap the services of right-hander Trevor Bauer (5-3, 3.73). The Bisons will go with lefty Ricky Romero (2-5, 6.01). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
