Bisons quiet Clippers 5-1

Clippers can't solve lefty Romero
August 1, 2013

The Clippers could only muster one run on the scoreboard as Rickey Romero and Buffalo shut down Columbus 5-1 at Huntington Park.

Jeremy Hermida got the Clippers off to good start offensively with a solo homer, his 15th of the year, to right center. That lead would not last long as Ryan Goins clubbed a two run homer out of the ballpark in the top of the second.

It would only be the beginning of productive frame for Buffalo. Mike McCoy later came around to score on a throwing error by Trevor Bauer and Munenori Kawasaki came home on a Kevin Pillar fielder's choice. Goins later used some small ball by driving in a run on a perfectly placed bunt single in the top of the fifth.

Trevor Bauer struggled with control issues while throwing from the mound as he walked five batters in five innings while giving up five runs on six hits. On the other side, Buffalo lefty Rickey Romero was sharp, hurling seven innings of one run baseball to go along with seven strikeouts.

The Clippers would manage only one other hit after Romero departed as Buffalo took game three of the four game series. Romero (W, 3-5) got the win for Buffalo. Bauer (L, 5-4) was tagged with the loss for Columbus.

These two teams will meet for the final time in the 2013 regular season on Friday night. Columbus will have righty Danny Salazar (3-2, 2.98) get the start on the mound. Buffalo will go with left-hander J.A. Happ (0-1, 7.27). First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 PM.
