Daisuke dominates Hens

Matsuzaka pitches into seventh for fifth time in last six starts

Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched well as the Clippers downed the Mud Hens 5-1 in Toledo.

Jeremy Hermida will got the Clippers off to a good start with a two run double in the top of the first. Ryan Rohlinger later tallied another run for Columbus with an RBI single in the top of the third.

The Hens got on the board in the top of the fourth on an RBI double by Mike Cervenak, but the Clippers got that run back when Rohlinger scored on a Matt Carson fielder's choice in the top of the sixth.

Daisuke Matsuzaka turned in a great effort on the mound for Columbus. The Japanese right-hander went seven strong innings, giving up only one run on three hits while striking out seven and walking one.

Roberto Perez provided some insurance with an RBI single in the eighth. Matsuzaka (W, 4-6) went on to win this game for Columbus. Blaine Hardy (L, 4-1) took the loss for Toledo.

The Clippers will try to make it three straight wins as they hook up with the Mud Hens for another contest at Fifth Third Field. Columbus will have the right-hander Carlos Carrasco (3-0, 2.70) get the start on the mound. Toledo will counter with lefty Kyle Lobstein (2-2, 3.52). First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
