House, Clippers shut down Bats

Lefty pitches eight standout innings
August 10, 2013

A five run seventh inning propelled Columbus to an 8-1 win over the Bats at Louisville Slugger Field.

The Clippers were the first team to crack the scoreboard in the top of the fourth on a Ryan Rohlinger RBI groundout and a Nate Spears RBI single.

Louisville would cut the deficit to 2-1 with a Neftali Soto RBI sacrifice fly in the sixth inning, but Columbus had a big answer in the seventh. It started with a Rohlinger solo homer. What followed was a Matt LaPorta two run single and RBI singles by Jeremy Hermida and Juan Diaz. In total, five runs crossed the plate during that frame as Columbus gave itself a commanding 7-1 lead. Roberto Perez later added an RBI single in the eighth.

It was more than enough run support for Clippers lefty T.J. House. House (W, 5-10) struck out five while handcuffing Louisville to one run on four hits in eight innings. Daniel Corcino (L, 6-12) took the loss for the Bats.

Before heading into a day-off on Monday, the Clippers will hook up with the Bats for some Sunday night baseball at Louisville Slugger Field. Trevor Bauer (5-5, 3.84) will get the start on the mound for the Clippers. The Bats will go with righty Yohan Pino (4-5, 2.76). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM.
