Mustangs End Chukars Win Streak

Billings Edges Idaho Falls 3-1
August 13, 2013

Idaho Falls, ID -- The offense hit a wall after three straight games of ten or more runs. In the first game without third baseman Hunter Dozier, the Chukars bats sputtered in a 3-1 loss to the Billings Mustangs.

Royals first round draft pick Hunter Dozier left the Chukars (27-24, 8-5) for Lexington, as he was promoted yesterday. The offense without him couldn't help support an excellent outing by starter Jake Junis (1-4). The right-hander allowed two runs in the first inning, but then settled in. The Rock Falls, IL product retired 15 Billings (19-33, 5-9) batters in a row. Junis struck out a Chukars pitcher season high 12 batters through seven innings. He only allowed those two runs.

The Mustangs produced two runs in the first inning. Carlton Daal reached base on an error by new third baseman Mauricio Ramos. He was doubled home by Ty Washington. Carlos Sanchez followed that up with a run scoring double of his own.

Meanwhile, Billings starter Ben Lively was sensational. Using his fastball and slider with tons of movement, the right-hander knifed through the Greybirds lineup. Lively lasted a season high four innings, and pitched perfect baseball. The Florida native didn't allow a baserunner, retiring all 12 batters he saw in order.

The Chukars loss ends the five game winning streak. With the Orem win, Idaho Falls loses it's share of first place in the Pioneer League South.

The Chukars and Mustangs continue the series tomorrow. Luis Santos is scheduled to make his Idaho Falls debut on the mound.
