Comeback Chukars Strike Against Rockies

Idaho Falls Rallies and Walks Off With Win
August 28, 2013

Idaho Falls, ID -- It looked like a typical start to a homestand for Idaho Falls. Early errors and runs allowed leading to a blowout loss is how the Chukars began the last two home stints. This time, the hometown team battled and rallied back five runs down and walked off with a 6-5 win.

The Chukars (35-30, 16-11) fell behind 5-0, but started the comeback in the sixth. Idaho Falls used a double-double attack at the top of the lineup. Leadoff hitter Carlos Garcia had an RBI double to kick start the run scoring. The next hitter in the order, Michael Antonio doubled to score Garcia. It was the Chukars 2013 debut for Michael Antonio, in Idaho Falls on a rehab assignment. The Rockies (28-37, 7-20) lead was trimmed to 5-3.

Idaho Falls used the same formula in the seventh to tie the game. Carlos Garcia doubled home Beau Maggi to pull the Greybirds within one. Next batter, Michael Antonio again doubled, and it scored Garcia. The five runs overcome was the largest deficit of the season.

The game was tied in the ninth. Idaho Falls escaped a two out, two on-base game in the top half, with Corey Rhoney (1-0) retiring Correlle Prime. In the bottom of the frame, Carlos Yan (0-4) walked Beau Maggi to begin the inning. Alexis Rivera pinch ran, and advanced to second on a passed ball. Logan Davis then tapped a bunt back to Yan, and he sailed a throw over first base. Rivera scored to give the Chukars the win.

The wins pulls Idaho Falls a half game in front of Orem in the Pioneer League South for first place in the division. The Chukars have beaten the Rockies seven straight times.

The team continues a four game series against the Rockies tomorrow.
