Chukars Lose on Breast Cancer Awareness Night

Orem HR Launches Them Past Idaho Falls
September 7, 2013

Idaho Falls, ID -- Four years ago, Chukars pitcher Matt Tenuta lost an Aunt in a battle with breast cancer. Tonight, wearing a pink clad jersey, the left-hander pitched in her honor on Breast Cancer Awareness night. Unfortunately, it wasn't a storybook outing for Tenuta. Orem knocks off Idaho Falls 9-4.

The Chukars (41-34, 22-15) saw their lead evaporate in the second. Matt Tenuta allowed four straight hits to Orem batters, including a two run double to Cambric Moye. The Owlz hopped ahead 3-2.

Idaho Falls was also within one run in the seventh. Corey Rhoney walked the first batter he faced in the frame. The next batter in the order leads the Pioneer League in walks. However, Cal Towey did walk, around the bases after hitting a home run to right field. The two run lead put the Owlz comfortably ahead.

Idaho Falls wore pink camouflage jerseys for the game for breast cancer awareness. After the game, the unique jerseys were auctioned off for the fans in attendance. The money raised by the auction went to breast cancer research, searching for a cure. Royals first round draft pick Hunter Dozier's jersey drew the highest bid.

Idaho Falls plays the final game of the regular season tomorrow against Orem at Melaleuca Field. It's a special 2pm start time on Fan Appreciation Night. Tim Melville is scheduled to start for the Chukars. The Greybirds play their first playoff game of 2013 on Monday at home against Grand Junction.
