Aberdeen, Md. - Ripken Baseball today announced plans for the inaugural Ripken Cup collegiate baseball invitational between University of Maryland and Towson University. The two-game series will be hosted at Ripken Stadium on Tuesday, April 15 and Wednesday, May 7 at 7:05 pm.
"We are thrilled to host two great collegiate baseball programs at Ripken Stadium this Spring," said Joe Harrington, General Manager of the Aberdeen IronBirds. "Our team is looking forward to providing both the student athletes and the fans with a memorable, big league experience."
Ripken Stadium previously held a Division I collegiate baseball game in 2004 when University of Maryland hosted Georgia Tech for a three-game series. Ripken Stadium is also the home of the Aberdeen IronBirds, affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, and has held the Maryland State High School Baseball championships since 2006.
"We are excited to be participating in this event and for the opportunity to play Towson at Ripken Stadium," said Terps head coach John Szefc. "It is an exceptional venue and we are looking forward to two great games between two good baseball teams."
"We are thrilled that the Ripkens have taken an interest in college baseball and are sponsoring this series between two fine college baseball programs. This can only help baseball in the state of Maryland," stated Mike Gottlieb, Towson University head baseball coach.
Individual tickets range from $5.00-$10.00 for the general public and $4.00-$9.00 for IronBirds season seat holders. Tickets include free parking and are available at the Ripken Stadium Box Office or by calling 410-297-9292.
