April 13, 2014

Salisbury, MD - The Delmarva Shorebirds lost 9-3 in the series finale with Greensboro on Sunday afternoon. With their third straight defeat, the Shorebirds dropped the series three games to one to the Grasshoppers.

Trailing 4-0, Delmarva got one run back in the bottom of the third. Mike Yastrzemski singled to left, and then Josh Hart delivered a two-out RBI double. However, the game continued to slip away from Delmarva as Greensboro responded with two more runs off Shorebirds' starter Luc Rennie. Greensboro made it 6-1 with a two-run single by Carlos Lopez in the fourth.

The Shorebirds responded with another run, but they could not keep up with the offensive production of the Grasshoppers. Greensboro scored three runs off Delmarva reliever Jon Keller in the seventh inning. In total, Greensboro collected 13 hits, the fourth straight game with at least 11 hits.

Trey Mancini kept his hitting streak alive with a triple to center, now at four consecutive games. Jeff Kemp added to his team-high RBI count with a sacrifice fly to score Mancini in the eighth. Kemp now has driven in eight runs for Delmarva.

Max Garner (2-0) was solid in the start for Greensboro, going five innings while allowing two runs on four hits. Luc Rennie (0-2) took his second straight loss as he surrendered six runs on nine hits in five innings.

Delmarva (4-7) now welcomes in the first-place Hagerstown Suns (9-2) for a three-game series starting Monday evening. Right-hander Austin Urban (0-1, 21.00) will start for Delmarva against Suns' righty Nick Pivetta (2-0, 0.90). First pitch at Perdue Stadium is at 7:05 pm on Monday evening.
