Missions Blanked in Homestand Finale

April 15, 2014

San Antonio managed just four hits during a 2-0 loss to Tulsa in Tuesday night's homestand finale at Wolff Stadium.

The Drillers did not take long Tuesday to get on the board, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Taylor Featherston scored from third on a Josh Geer wild pitch. It was the first time in 2014 that Tulsa scored a game's opening run. Tulsa doubled their lead in the 6th on an RBI double by Tyler Massey.

The two runs were the only blemishes on the night for Geer, who allowed five hits and no walks, while striking out four over a season-high six innings.

Unfortunately for Geer (0-2), his mound opponent, Dan Winkler was a little better. The Tulsa right hander struck out nine in five and two-thirds innings, allowing just three hits and three walks. First baseman Lee Orr was the only Mission Winkler (1-1) failed to fan in the game.

From there the Drillers' bullpen took over, with Nelson Gonzalez, Kenny Roberts and Scott Oberg (3rd save) combining on three and a third innings of one-hit ball.

The Missions, who finished their opening homestand 2-4, struck out 13 times in the contest.

San Antonio (6-6) will be off on Wednesday before beginning a four-game series in Midland on Thursday night. First pitch from Security Bank Ballpark is scheduled for 7:00 PM. RH Devin Jones (1-1, 6.30) will get the ball for the Missions, while the RockHounds will counter with RH Tanner Peters (0-2, 3.18).

Notes: Earlier in the day the San Diego Padres announced a transaction, affecting the Missions' roster. RHP Matt Branham was transferred from San Antonio to El Paso. Branham was 0-1 with a 4.91 ERA in four appearances with the Missions this season. Replacing him on the San Antonio roster is RHP John Hussey, who was on the DL with an ankle injury.
