Trey Ball Added to Drive Roster

Left-handed pitcher was the 7th overall pick in the 2013 MLB Draft
April 26, 2014

Greenville, SC - The Greenville Drive have received left-handed pitcher Trey Ball from extended spring training, and he is now on the active roster. Ball was selected by the Boston Red Sox as their first round selection (7th overall) in the 2013 MLB First Year Player Draft out of New Castle High School in Indiana.

Ball, who is ranked as the number 10 prospect in the Boston organization by Baseball America, will become the highest draft pick to suit up for the Drive in their nine-year franchise history.

"We're very excited to have Trey in Greenville this season," commented Drive General Manager Eric Jarinko. "The Drive are off to a terrific start already in 2014, and the pitching staff has been a big reason why. The addition of Trey to our already outstanding group of pitchers will only help the Drive as they continue to develop these players towards Boston."

Ball pitched for the Gulf Coast League Red Sox after signing last year and made five starts, including one in the Gulf Coast League championship series.

"Trey is another example of the great scouting and player development departments the Red Sox have put in place," said Drive Co-Owner and Team President Craig Brown. "This is a big step for Trey and we are optimistic that he will have success at this level and continue to develop under the tutelage of our great coaching staff in Greenville."

Ball is scheduled to make his first start for the Drive on Sunday afternoon against the Lexington Legends. First pitch for Sunday's game is scheduled for 4:05.
