April 28, 2014

After a homestand filled with outstanding offensive contributions across the board, Greenville Drive outfielder Bo Greenwell has been named the South Atlantic League Player of the Week for the week of April 21-27, the league announced on Monday.

The 25-year old appeared in six of the Drive's seven games this week, and boasted a .458 (11-24) batting average with three homers, eight RBI, seven runs, a .500 on-base percentage and an .875 slugging percentage.

A native of Fort Myers, Florida, Greenwell posted his biggest game of the week in Thursday's 9-4 victory over Lexington. He led off the bottom of the first with a home run, then smacked a two-run homer in the second. He finished the game 4-5 with the two homers and four RBI. He followed that up by going 2-4 with another homer in Friday's game, and he concluded the week with a 2-3 effort in the Drive's 21-6 win on Sunday.

"Bo had a great week for us and was a catalyst at the top of our lineup, setting the table for the guys behind him and helping lead us to a successful 5-2 homestand," said Drive Manager Darren Fenster.

For the season, Greenwell is hitting .306 (19-62) with 12 runs, two doubles, three homers, 12 RBI, two steals, a .343 on-base percentage and a .484 slugging percentage.

Greenwell is the first Drive player to win weekly honors from the South Atlantic League since Luis Diaz was named Pitcher of the Week of June 24-30, 2013. He is also the first hitter to receive the league Player of the Week since Mookie Betts the week of May 6-12, 2013.

The Drive begin a seven-game road trip tomorrow, and they will return to Fluor Field on Wednesday, May 7th against the Greensboro Grasshoppers at 7:05.
