Drive Fall to GreenJackets, 4-2

Margot and Rijo collect two hits each
May 3, 2014

Augusta, GA - For the second consecutive game, the Augusta GreenJackets (15-14) took an early lead and never looked back as they picked up a 4-2 victory over the Greenville Drive (14-12) on Saturday night.

In the bottom of the first, Augusta jumped out to a 2-0 lead against Drive starter Trey Ball (1-1), as Tyler Horan smacked a two-run homer to right-center to score Ryder Jones, who was hit by a pitch.

The GreenJackets added a run in the second thanks to a one-out double by Ryan Tuntland and an RBI single by John Polonius.

Despite receiving the loss and allowing three runs, Ball showed some promise by striking out six and allowing no walks in five innings of work.

The Drive got on the board in the third inning as Jesus Loya dropped down a bunt single to begin the frame and later scored on Jantzen Witte's double to left.

That third-inning run was the only blemish on a terrific start from Augusta's Matt Lujan (4-1), who worked six and one-third innings and punched out eight.

Augusta scored an insurance run in the seventh with Sergio Gomez on the mound for Greenville. Jeremy Sy led off with a triple to center field and came in to score on Brandon Bednar's RBI single.

Jordan Weems hit an RBI groundout in the top of the ninth to cut the Augusta lead to 4-2, but Luis Castillo recovered and finished the inning to record his second save.

Manuel Margot and Wendell Rijo each collected two hits for the Drive. Bednar and Tuntland had two hits apiece for Augusta, and Horan drove in two with his first-inning homer.

The Drive will look to rebound on Sunday afternoon in Augusta, with first pitch set for 2:00. RH Jamie Callahan (1-2, 5.32) is the scheduled starter for the Drive, and the GreenJackets will send LH Christian Jones (1-2, 3.38) to the mound.
