G-Braves Add Pitcher Eric Berger

Left-hander promoted to Gwinnett from Double-A Mississippi

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - The Gwinnett Braves, in conjunction with the Atlanta Braves, announced Tuesday the promotion of left-hander Eric Berger to the Gwinnett roster from Double-A Mississippi. Additionally, right-hander Luis Vasquez has been placed on the disabled list retroactive to May 2 with a right elbow strain.

Berger, 28, signed a minor league free agent deal with the Atlanta Braves on April 30 and was assigned to Mississippi, where he went 0-0 with a 4.50 ERA (2 ER in 4.0 IP) in two relief outings. He began the season with Triple-A Sacramento, going 0-0 with a 6.75 ERA (1 ER in 1.1 IP) in three appearances before being released by the Oakland Athletics on April 9.

Originally selected by the Cleveland Indians in the eighth round of the 2008 June free agent draft, Berger is 27-28 with a 3.81 ERA (236 ER in 557.0 IP) in 184 minor league games, including 81 starts. He spent six seasons in the Indians system from 2008-13, reaching as high as Triple-A Columbus in 2010-12. Last season, the left-hander pitched primarily for Triple-A Oklahoma City of the Houston Astros organization, going 6-3 with a 3.06 ERA (24 ER in 70.2 IP) in 44 games, three starts.

Vasquez, 28, went 1-0 with an 11.91 ERA (15 ER in 11.1 IP) in 11 relief outings with the Gwinnett Braves this season.

The Gwinnett Braves and the Buffalo Bisons continue their four-game series on Tuesday night at 6:35 PM. Left-hander Ian Thomas (0-0, 0.00) will make his Triple-A debut for Gwinnett and will go against right-hander Liam Hendriks (4-0, 1.26) of the Bisons.
