05/15/2014 6:27 PM ET

Woodbridge, VA-The Potomac Nationals (20-16, 10-8) and Myrtle Beach Pelicans (25-13, 10-8) were washed out of an opportunity to play their series opener of a four-game set on TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark on Thursday evening as heavy rains and accompanying severe thunderstorms blanketed the Grand Strand this afternoon.

Friday's regularly scheduled 7:05pm nine-inning standoff will go on as planned.

A doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday, May 17th featuring a pair of seven-inning contests to serve as Games Two and Three of this road series.

The twin bill on Saturday will begin with a 5:05pm first pitch. The second game will start roughly 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first game.

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans will send LHP Andrew Faulkner (1-0, 2.25) to the mound in Game One on Friday night. Faulkner was scheduled to be the Myrtle Beach starting pitcher tonight. The Potomac Nationals have yet to announce their starting hurler to open this bus trip series tomorrow. Nationals RHP Ian Dickson (1-2, 4.96) was the planned slinger for the visitor's tonight.
