June 7, 2014

The Birmingham Barons donned special 'Los Barons' jerseys and snapped their four-game losing streak with a 9-3 win over the Jackson Generals Saturday night in front of 6,907 fans at Regions Field.

Jackson took an early 1-0 lead against Barons starter Bryan Blough (1-0, 3.12), as Leon Landry scored from third base on a sacrifice fly by Patrick Kivlehan.

After the Barons tied the game in the bottom half on a sacrifice fly by Chris Curley, Jackson jumped back on top with two runs in the second on a ground-rule double by Kevin Rivers and an RBI base hit by Ketel Marte to take a 3-1 lead.

The Barons stormed back to tie the game in the fourth with the help of the long ball. Josh Richmond clubbed his fifth home run of the season to cut lead to 3-2. A batter later, Joe De Pinto launched his first career Double-A homer which tied the game at 3-3. Richmond finished 2-for-4 while collecting his team-leading 28th RBI.

Chris Curley extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a fifth inning double and scored on an error by third baseman Patrick Kivlehan, giving the Barons their first lead at 4-3. The lead grew to 7-3 in the sixth on a Luis Sierra RBI double and a two-run single by Curley. Jackson starter Forrest Snow (0-1, 6.10) allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits over 5.2 IP.

Blough picked up his first win since joining the Barons in mid may, allowing three runs on 10 hits while striking out five over 5.2 IP.

Trayce Thompson led a 16-hit attack for the Barons going 4-for-5 with two runs scored while Curley, Michael Earley and Richmond finished with two hits apiece.

With the win, the Barons improved to 27-36 while the Generals fell to 27-35. The Barons will look to win their second game in a row Sunday afternoon when they send LHP Scott Snodgress (3-4, 4.48) to the hill against RHP Victor Sanchez (1-2, 5.28). First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM CDT.
