Chasers Win Streak Snapped at Four Games

Houston prospect holds down Omaha offense, Marimon struggles for first time at Werner Park
June 8, 2014

OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers (33-29) had both their overall winning streak of four games and their home winning streak of four games snapped, which were both tied for season highs, as the Oklahoma City RedHawks (33-30) held Omaha to their lowest hit total in over a month. But with an Iowa loss tonight in Des Moines, Omaha remained in first place in the American North Division.

Top Astros pitching prospect Mike Foltynewicz held down the Omaha offense for the third time this season, blanking the Chasers through the first six innings while totaling eight strikeouts. Omaha could only muster two hits in those first six frames and four total baserunners, but rallied for two runs in the seventh to chase Foltynewicz out of the game. In his three starts against Omaha this season, Foltynewicz has given up just four runs in 20.1 innings while racking up 30 strikeouts.

Omaha starter Sugar Ray Marimon had his first subpar outing at Werner Park, as the right-hander tied a season high with five runs allowed while turning in his shortest Triple-A outing at 2.1 innings. Marimon had only allowed seven total runs in his first 29.0 innings at Werner Park, but he allowed nine of the 16 batters he faced to reach before being lifted. The Omaha bullpen kept the Chasers in the game by allowing just two hits during the final 5.2 innings, but the offense could not take full advantage.

Utility man Whit Merrifield, in his first Triple-A game, tripled in the only two runs for the Chasers on the night for his first hit as an Omaha Storm Chaser. The five hits by Omaha were their lowest hit total since the last Mike Foltynewicz start at Werner Park on May 5 when they managed only one.

The Chasers will look to notch a second straight series win against the RedHawks tomorrow in the finale, while also looking to win the home series with the division rival RedHawks. First pitch on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and MiLB.TV is scheduled for 2:05 p.m.
