IronPigs to Host "Superhero" Night Featuring Batman-Inspired Jerseys

June 10, 2014

(Allentown, Pa.) - The Lehigh Valley IronPigs will wear unique Batman-inspired specialty jerseys when they host the Columbus Clippers for "Superhero" Night on Friday, June 20, at Coca-Cola Park. The specialty jerseys, presented by BSI Corporate Benefits, will be auctioned off during that night's game with proceeds benefiting the Special Olympics of Lehigh County.

While Batman's costume incorporates the imagery of a bat in order to frighten criminals, the IronPigs jersey dons a powerful pig-like marking along with the word "IronPigs" in the club's familiar steel-rivet font across the center of the chest. The black and maize color combo mirrors that of Batman's iconic bat logo.

"Batman is the most iconic comic book of all-time and the IronPigs are Minor League Baseball's most revered brand," remarked IronPigs' President and General Manager Kurt Landes. "This is a winning combination that our fans are going to go 'Hog Wild' for while also raising awareness and funds for Special Olympics of Lehigh County."

An American cultural icon, Batman is a fictional character regarded as, "The World's Greatest Detective" that has been adapted in a wide array of media since originally appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. Batman is the secret identity of Bruce Wayne, a wealthy industrialist and philanthropist that witnessed the murder of his parents as a child and swore revenge on criminals. He wears a bat-themed costume to fight crime and exact justice in the fictional Gotham City.

In addition to the Batman-inspired jerseys, other promotions and activities are planned for Superhero Night, and all fans are encouraged to dress like their favorite Crime Fighter.

Superhero Night coincides with Friday Night Fireworks presented by Lehigh Valley Health Network's Heart & Vascular Center immediately following the IronPigs-Clippers game on June 20.

Fans can bid on their favorite player's jerseys from anywhere with the easy-to-use Qtego service that allows fans to place bids, receive notifications when outbid and check the status of their item via text messages on their mobile phones. Fans without texting access can even call in their bid after registering their phone at Coca-Cola Park.

Register your phone from anywhere in the U.S. by texting "Pigs" to 79230. Detailed instructions on how to place your bid will be made available at ironpigsbaseball.com on June 19.

Winning bidders of the jerseys will have the opportunity to go on the field immediately following the game to have their jersey autographed. Please note that the on-field jersey signing will only occur with the home team jerseys. Bidders not in attendance at Coca-Cola Park can either pick up their signed jersey at a later date or have it mailed directly to them.

The jersey auction proceeds will benefit the Special Olympics of Lehigh County which provides year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.
