Whiteside Returns to I-Cubs

Flores re-assigned to double-A Tennessee

Colorado Springs, CO - The Chicago Cubs designated C Eli Whiteside for assignment on June 23. He has cleared waivers and accepted his assignment to return to the Iowa Cubs today. He is active for tonight's double-header in Colorado Springs. C Luis Flores was re-assigned to double-A Tennessee following Tuesday's home game against Albuquerque.

Whiteside had his contract purchased by the Cubs on June 3 when C Welington Castillo was placed on the disabled list. Whiteside played in eight games with Chicago and hit .120 (3-for-25) with a double and two RBI. He was designated when Castillo was activated from the DL. Whiteside opened the season with Iowa and batted .171 (18-for-105) with three home runs and 13 RBI in 33 games before his call-up.

Flores was batting .253 (22-for-87) with two home runs, eight RBI, and a team-high 27 walks in 31 games with Iowa this season.

OF Manny Ramirez will wear #44 and is expected to play in game two of tonight's double-header in Colorado Springs. OF Ryan Kalish has switched his number to 2.

The first game of tonight's double-header will start at 6:05 Central time and will be broadcast live on AM 940 and streamed live at iowacubs.com. RH Kyle Hendricks (8-5, 3.55) will start for the Cubs against RH Juan Nicasio (1-0, 3.38) for the Sky Sox. Game two will feature RH Carlos Pimentel (1-3, 4.01) for the Cubs against RH Wilton Lopez (1-2, 4.19) for the Sky Sox.
