Brooklyn Salvages Game Three, Beats Aberdeen 7-0

July 6, 2014

Brooklyn, NY - One night removed from a season high 18 runs and 18 hits, the Aberdeen IronBirds were held to two hits and four total base runners in a 7-0 loss to the Brooklyn Cyclones Sunday afternoon at MCU Park. The two hits set a new season low for the IronBirds.

Even with the loss, Aberdeen won the series after taking both Friday night and last night's games.

The two teams were scoreless until the bottom of the fourth. Matt Grimes, the IronBirds' reliever, allowed four consecutive base hits-three singles and a double-followed two batters later by and RBI groundout and the hosts led 3-0 after four innings.

Brooklyn would add on to their lead in the sixth. They sent eight batters to the plate, scoring four runs off of Nigel Nootbaar, ballooning the lead to 7-0.

Aberdeen's two hits came in separate innings. Austin Pfeiffer led off the third inning with a single, and Federico Castagnini led off the fifth with a double. After Castagnini's base hit, the final 15 Aberdeen hitters were retired in order to end the game.

The IronBirds move on to Staten Island, where they will play a double header tomorrow and a single game on Tuesday. First pitch of game one tomorrow is scheduled for 6 p.m.
