Baby Bombers drop second consecutive game to IronBirds, 9-2

July 8, 2014

After playing two seven-inning games on Monday, the Staten Island Yankees (12-13) and Aberdeen IronBirds (6-19) met in Richmond County Bank Ballpark to face off for the final time in the 2014 regular season.

Staten Island started the game on a good note with Jose Javier earning a walk followed by singles from Chris Breen and Luis Torrens. With the bases loaded, Connor Spencer brought home the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly out that gave the Yankees a 1-0 lead.

The Baby Bombers continued to hit in the fourth inning as Bolasky reached base with one of his two base hits in the game, giving the 2014 draft pick his fourth consecutive multi-hit game. Javier and Breen followed Bolasky's single with walks. With Torrens up to bat, Bolasky was able reach home by way of a wild pitch, giving Staten Island a 2-0 lead.

Yankee starting pitcher Jordan Cote (L, 0-1) cruised through his first four innings of work before the IronBird bats awoke in the fifth inning. The IronBirds went on to put up a total of seven runs in the inning including four runs, three earned, on Cote and three runs on reliever Tim Giel. Aberdeen would add to the lead in the sixth and seventh innings, scoring one run in each frame on Giel to put the game out of reach at 9-2.

Staten Island hits the road tomorrow for a six-game road trip beginning with the team's first non-McNamara Division opponent of the season in Red Sox affiliate, the Lowell Spinners. The Baby Bombers return to Staten Island on Wednesday, June 16, to face the Philadelphia Phillies affiliate, the Williamsport Crosscutters, for WFAN Fan Takeover Night.
