Yankees Fall to Marauders in Extras, 6-2

July 14, 2014

TAMPA, Fla. - The Tampa Yankees (12-12) held a late a 2-1 lead before the Bradenton Marauders (15-8) tied the score in the 8th and went on to win in 12 innings, 6-2 on Monday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

Bradenton loaded the bases against Miguel Sulbaran in the first inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jordan Steranka, taking a 1-0 lead.

The Yankees responded with two runs against Marauders' starter John Kuchno. Greg Bird worked a two-out walk and advanced on a double by Dante Bichette Jr. Both scored on a single to right field by Yeicock Calderon, giving Tampa the lead.

Sulbaran settled down after that, facing just one batter over the minimum through the sixth inning. The southpaw allowed one run on five hits in six innings of work, striking out four while not surrendering a walk.

Kuchno held the Yankees scoreless through the next seven frames. The righty allowed two runs on four hits in eight innings, walking one and striking out one.

Chris Smith entered the game for the T-Yanks in the eighth and allowed a one-out walk to Max Moroff. A wild pitch moved the runner to second before Josh Bell lined a ball to center field. Jake Cave attempted to make a diving catch and the ball skipped by, rolling towards the wall. Bell ended up with an RBI triple, tying the game at 2-2.

The game remained tied up until the 12th when Tampa brought in catcher Wes Wilson to pitch. Wilson had dealt four scoreless frames in a win back on May 16th. The magic didn't happen for Wilson on Monday as the catcher surrendered four runs on four hits in one inning of work.

Bradenton loaded the bases and Bell delivered an RBI single up the middle. Jose Osuna followed with a three-run triple down the left field line, giving the Marauders a 6-2 lead.

RHP BrytonTrepagnier stranded two runners in the bottom of the 12th and closed the door for Bradenton.

Bichette went 1-for-4 with a double and a walk, extending his on base streak to 26 games and his hitting streak to 17 games. Judge picked up two singles and a walk, going 2-for-4.

The T-Yanks enjoy an off day on Tuesday as the MLB Al Star Game takes place in Minnesota. Tampa returns to action on Wednesday to begin a four-game set in Palm Beach against the Cardinals.
