After delay, Lugs slug their way to victory
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The Lansing Lugnuts (12-12, 44-49) knocked three home runs to pick up an 11-6 win on Monday night and split a four-game road set with the Bowling Green Hot Rods (10-14, 42-51).
After a 44-minute rain delay pushed back the start of the game, Lansing saw long balls clubbed by David Harris, Derrick Loveless and Dawel Lugo, tying a season high for home runs in a game.
Harris opened the game with a solo home run to left field off of Bowling Green starter Bruedlin Suero (Loss, 1-2), his fourth since joining the Lugnuts in June.
The Hot Rods answered with three unanswered runs, but Loveless drilled a two-run home run off of the scoreboard in right-center field to tie the game at 3-3 in the third.
Lansing took a 5-3 lead in the fourth with back-to-back, two-out RBI singles by Justin Atkinson and Daniel Klein in the fourth, but the Hot Rods rallied for a pair of runs to tie the game in the bottom half of the inning.
Reliever Matt Dermody (Win, 4-4) entered in the fifth inning and pitched three scoreless innings with five strikeouts.
The Lugnuts moved back in front in the fifth inning on a three-run home run by Lugo, who drove in two more runs on a single in the sixth to put Lansing ahead 11-5. The shortstop finished the night with five RBIs.
Lansing starting pitcher Jeremy Gabryszwski allowed five runs on nine hits in four innings with a pair of strikeouts.
The Lugnuts return home on a Hump Day, Wednesday, July 16th, starring Humphrey the Camel and featuring Hump Day Happy Hour with half-off drinks from 7-8 p.m. Lefty Shane Dawson (2-5, 3.78) starts on the mound for Lansing.
