16 Hits Lead Greenville to Win

July 16, 2014

The Greenville Drive (7-19) topped the Rome Braves (7-19) Tuesday night at State Mutual Stadium by a final score of 9-4 before a crowd of 2,072.

Greenville wasted no time getting on the board by posting two runs in the first thanks to an RBI triple by Wendell Rijo and a ground out by Carlos Asuaje to plate Rijo. The Drive added to their lead in the second inning on a run scoring double by Cole Sturgeon for the 3-0 advantage. The third inning saw two more runs cross the plate for Greenville on RBI singles by Kevin Mager and Jake Romanski making it a 5-0 game.

Rome would plate two runs in the bottom of the third on an RBI double by Johan Camargo and a run scoring single by Victor Reyes for the 5-2 score. That's as close as the Braves would get as Greenville added a run in the fourth, two in the seventh, and one in the eighth. The Braves added single runs in the fifth and ninth innings for the 9-4 final. Greenville had 16 hits in the game.

Sergio Gomez (1-1) gets the win in relief while Rome starter Yean Carlos Gil (5-5) is tagged with the loss. Gil went two innings, allowed ten hits and five earned runs.
