Cougars blank Lugs in 10, 3-0

LANSING, Mich. - Jacob Rogers's two-run single broke a scoreless tie in the tenth inning, helping the Kane County Cougars (18-8, 63-33) defeat the Lansing Lugnuts (13-13, 45-50), 3-0, on Thursday night at Cooley Law School Stadium. 

The Kane County pitching staff held the Lugnuts to just three hits on the night and hitless after the third inning. 

After the Cougars loaded the bases with one out, Rogers broke the tie in the tenth with a sizzling base hit to right against reliever Brady Dragmire (Loss, 3-5). Two batters later, catcher Cael Brockmeyer plated an additional run with an RBI single. 

Reliever Gerardo Concepcion (Win, 2-2) fired three scoreless innings to finish the game for Kane County. 

In a no-decision, Lansing starter Brent Powers pitched five scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Reliever Alonzo Gonzalez followed with 2.2 scoreless innings, holding the Cougars to just one hit while striking out two. 

Kane County starting pitcher Duane Underwood fired six scoreless frames, scattering three hits with three strikeouts and a walk.

Chicago Cubs reliever Kyuji Fujikawa made a rehab appearance in the seventh, issuing a walk while striking out a pair in a scoreless frame.

Lansing and Kane County play the rubber match of the three-game set on Friday night at Cooley Law School Stadium, featuring a Salute to Service on Freebie Friday: Military Eat Free! LAFCU Fireworks follow the 7:05 p.m. game. Right-hander Chase De Jong (0-5, 4.86) starts on the mound for the Lugnuts, countered by Cougars' righty Tyler Skulina.
