El Paso Chihuahuas Game Summary

Fresno 9 Chihuahuas 7 - Friday

WP: Heston (9-5)

LP: Roach (2-4)

S: Cordier (2)

Time: 3:23

Attn: 8,777

The El Paso Chihuahuas trailed by eight runs in the eighth inning but rallied to put the tying run on second base in the ninth in their 9-7 loss to the Fresno Grizzlies on Friday. El Paso scored five times in the eighth and once in the ninth before Fresno reliever Erik Cordier struck out three batters in a row to end the game, after he walked the first three hitters of the bottom of the ninth.

The Chihuahuas eighth inning burst of runs included three doubles (Everth Cabrera, Jedd Gyorko and Jonathan Galvez) in the first five pitches of the frame. Other runs scored on Cody Decker's sacrifice fly and on a combination of two Fresno errors. Both teams made four errors, setting a new Fresno season high and matching the Chihuahuas' season high.

Rymer Liriano went 3-for-4 and now has two different three-hit games in his first three Triple-A contests. Cabrera went 2-for-5 with an RBI and Gyorko 1-for-4 with an RBI on their injury rehab assignments. Both players were on the field for all nine innings. Rehabbing first baseman Yonder Alonso played six innings and went 1-for-3.

The loss dropped El Paso out of second place in the standings for the first time since May 28th.
