Las Vegas Takes the First Game of the Series

Las Vegas sent nine batters to the plate and scored five runs in the seventh inning, as the 51s rallied for an 11-6 win over the Salt Lake Bees on Friday night. With one out, Allen Dykstra singled and Andrew Brown walked before Kirk Nieuwenhuis, who had just been demoted by the New York Mets, lifted a 1-1 pitch from Kyler Newby (0-3) over the left field wall to give Las Vegas an 8-6 lead. The 51s would add two more runs in the inning. Salt Lake had taken a 6-5 lead in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Luis Martinez.
 
The Bees led 5-1 going into the bottom of the fifth, but Las Vegas tied the game with two run homers by Andrew Brown and Josh Satin. Salt Lake jumped in front in the first on a two run homer by Brennan Boesch and added two more in the second on an RBI triple by Vance Albitz and a run scoring double by Tony Campana for a 4-0 lead. Luis Jimenez led the Bees with three hits and one run batted in, while Tony Campana and Vance Albitz each added two hits and one RBI. The first place 51s have now taken ten of the thirteen games against the Bees this season.
