Comeback Win for West Virginia

July 27, 2014

The Rome Braves (13-23) were defeated by the West Virginia Power (17-19) on Saturday night by a score of 9-8.

The Braves started strong in the first posting three runs on RBI singles by Sean Godfrey, Victor Caratini, and Tanner Krietemeier. The Power added single runs in the third and fourth on RBI singles by Erich Weiss and Jeff Roy and a single run in the fifth on an RBI ground out from Weiss to tie the game 3-3. Rome regained the lead in the fifth on a two run double by Caratini for the 5-3 score. The Braves added to their lead in the sixth on an RBI single from Connor Lien and a two run double by Johan Camargo for the 8-3 score.

West Virginia began to chip away at Rome's lead in the sixth. A throwing error plated Jeff Roy and an RBI sacrifice fly by Edwin Espinal made it an 8-5 game. The Power tied the game in the seventh on a run scoring ground out by Michael Fransoso and two run single by Maximo Rivera. A wild pitch in the top of the eighth would plate the winning run for West Virginia and they would hold on for the final 9-8 victory.

Isaac Sanchez (3-3) gets the win and Michael Swanner (3-1) is tagged with the loss. Sean Godfrey went two for three with one RBI to extend his hitting streak to 13 games.
